I'm currently producing a 5-10 second 3d animation in swift3dv2 for export into flash but I am not sure what file size I should not go beyond. The site will maily be viewed by businesses so I guess I don't have to care much about those 56k modem people.
What's the maximum size you would advise on? Any suggestions on settings in flash5?

I'm a 56ker so if you wish you can discard my opinion... I wouldn't pass 200K

Hi
In my opinion, it is correct to use animations up to 50kb in commercial webs (these animations without music)
As per creative webs, you don't have any limit. That depends only on the visitor's patience.
I normally use swift3d 2 (with flash5), in order to allow me creating very small files.

Hi Buzz,
I believe that the max file-size for a 56k modem is 150kb. Then you have to wait like 7 sec +/-.
If it is for a presentation on CDROM you can make it as big as to fit the CDROM, it will load instantly.
If it is very DSL/Cable i would suggest not more then 200kb.
I would say check the speeds in Flash itself "Bandwith meter".

I like to keep low-end systems at the top of my list. While i have a cable modem, I was cursed with 64Mb of unupgradeable ram.
For big productions, im happy with under 1mb. This is pretty large, and will usually be a slideshow with lots of music and stuff.
For normal things, They usually clock in at about 200-600kb.It all depends on the time your willing to wait. Give them a preloader, and maybe a small pre-movie game for entertainment, and anything will fly :P
[edit] Next time, i should probably look at the forum its posted in before i charge in with suggestions :O

Thanks for your thoughts all,
I'm doing something complex and the computer's been rendering all night long - guess I'll have to fiddle about with the export settings in Swift3d ...

Hi Buzz,
Glad we could share our thoughts about it!
Yes the rendering can take quite a while...it also depends on your configuration of your PC (CPU, RAM and stuff).

Hi buzz,
his allows you to make swift3d 2 (only 41 kb)

You may try to construct objects with swift3D 2, in this way you can only obtain less complex shapes and small files.
