**Warning** The linkage identifier was already assigned to the symbol
Hey,
i created a libary graphic symbol which has a linkage indetifier "Square". There are already 2 instances of this symbol being used as buttons on the stage (authoring time). i have an actionscript that dynamically attaches the said symbol into another movieclip item (not an instance of the sybmol) on the stage at runtime. on debuggin the movie. i get a Quote:
this is repeated 2 twice and then a third time once the attachMovie function is executed...what gives here Kendall |

You have two different items in your library with the linkage id of Square. You need to change one of them to be unique. Creating a symbol

Scottae,
man i sswear i swear i swear i checked it and checked it. I do not have another symbol with an identifier far less for an identifier named "Square". What i note is that if i changed my publish settings from "Flash Player 8" to "Flash Player 7" i dont get any output waarnings...So it has something to do with exporting to Flash Player 8 Kendall |

That's the only reason it would tell you that. Try double checking by opening up your library, and stretch it out width wise so it's really fat. You will have 5 different little headers you can sort by:
Click on the linkage header to sort by the linkage id's. See if you have two Squares that way.

Well that's just wierd man. I guess start tinkering around. Change the linkage id. Maybe start a new .fla and drag your assets over.

Linkage Indentifier Solved
The problem seems to be when the symbol is of one type (say a button) in the library and another type (like a movieclip) on stage. Don't know why this is suddenly happening but I just spent ages figuring this out.
It doesn't seem to mind if you display as a Graphic on stage no matter what type it is in the library. |
